Pencil Sketches of Landscapes

landscape pencil sketch

The closer objects have more detail and
the further the object is away, the less detail it receives.
Always start with the foreground (front) of the sketch. This will allow you to add in all the necessary details. Then continue to move to the middleground and background, with less detail with each step.
There is very little detail in the background of this sketch, but a great amount of detail in the foreground. The tall tree on the left helps to allow for your eyes to focus on the foreground then slowly move to the rest of the picture.  Try experimenting with colored pencils.
Remember to layer different colors on top of eachother.
Look at the detail in the trees in the foreground. Now look at the detail in the trees in the background. See the difference?

The background in this picture is black in order to make the flowers "pop" out at you. Notice how the grass blades in the foreground
have a high amount of detail, while the background has little detail.
Blending in the background can easily be done with blending stumps.
See how the background just fades away?
